Online Registration Open for 2019 ASI Annual Convention
November 9, 2018
The Crescent City will host the American Sheep Industry Association Annual Convention for the first time, and we invite you to join us When the Sheep Go Marching In on Jan. 23-26, 2019, at the New Orleans Marriott.
Online registration for the convention opened this week. Click Here to register. The 2019 ASI Annual Convention is shaping up to be one of the best in the association’s 154-year history.
The week kicks off with a tour on Jan. 23 that will allow attendees the opportunity to Experience the Great Mississippi Delta Ecosystem. Enjoy a first-hand look at the natural, cultural and economic importance of the Mighty Mississippi with this fresh insider’s perspective on New Orleans and surrounding coastal communities. The tour will take participants off the beaten path to explore the significance of the region’s greatest natural asset. Visit a wildlife refuge, a working fishing community and savor local seafood during a stop at the historic Docville Farm. Other tours include the Crescent City itself, Mardi Gras World and the World War II Museum.
Millennial Alicia Rainwater will speak on bridging generations – a topic she’s well versed in as a certified keynote speaker at the Center for Generational Kinetics – during the Opening Session on Jan. 24. Buckaroo Poet Waddie Mitchell will round out the week at the Saturday luncheon with his own unique brand of storytelling. His experience growing up on the Nevada ranches his father called home has immersed Waddie in a cowboy way of entertaining that combines the humorous and the tragic, the grand and the commonplace.
First and foremost, the Annual Convention provides an opportunity for the entire American sheep industry to come together to handle important business. ASI will be joined in New Orleans by the American Lamb Board, American Goat Federation, ASI Women, National Lamb Feeders Association, National Livestock Producers Association, National Sheep Improvement Program, National Sheep Industry Improvement Center, Sheep Heritage Foundation, Sheep Venture Company and Western Range Association. Throughout the week, important meetings involving ASI’s councils and committees, as well as these ancillary groups, will tackle important topics of discussion as the sheep industry heads into the coming year.
The Make It With Wool National Finals will also be conducted during the week and wrap-up on Saturday evening with the MIWW Banquet and Fashion Show.
“We’re putting together an Annual Convention that will be second to none,” said ASI President Mike Corn of New Mexico. “I personally would like to invite everyone to join us in New Orleans as we make decisions that will affect the American sheep industry for generations to come.”
