NSIIC Directors Appointed
November 1, 2013
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack appointed two members to the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (NSIIC). Members will serve a three-year term beginning January 2014.
Reappointed to the board are Clark Willis (Utah), representing sheep and goat producers, and Joan Snyder (N.Y.), representing members that have an expertise in finance and management.
The sheep center was established as part of the 2008 Farm Bill and is designed to improve the competitiveness of the U.S. sheep industry.
The American Sheep Industry Association nominated both producer leaders to serve an additional term and is currently working on re-authorizing the program in the Farm Bill.
The board is composed of seven voting members and two non-voting members. Voting members of the board include four active producers of sheep or goats, two individuals with expertise in finance and management and one who is knowledgeable in lamb, wool, goat or goat product marketing.
USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service provides oversight of the center.
