House Approps Approves FY14 Ag Measure

The full House Appropriations Committee on Thursday reported favorably the Agriculture Appropriations bill for FY 2014. The bill totals $19.5 billion in discretionary funding, which is $1.3 billion below FY 2013 levels and approximately equal to the current funding levels caused by sequestration cuts. This is $516 million below the president’s request.
The committee recommended that the line for equine, cervid and small ruminant health at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service be funded at $19.169 million and that Wildlife Service (WS)-Management be funded at $18.104 million with WS-Methods funded at $19 million. The committee recommended that overall funding for WS for FY 2014 be increased by $12.6 million over FY 2013 levels.
The Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee announced it will mark-up its version of the FY 2014 spending measure Tuesday, June 18.
