Jan. 16, 2004 -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that the selective depopulation of the index herd, which began on Saturday, January 10, continues. Approximately 130 animals from the index herd are expected to be transported, euthanized and tested. To date, 89 animals from the index premises have been eliminated and tested.
USDA is continuing its investigation into the 81 cows that came from Canada. The identity of all the animals has not yet been confirmed.
