GIPSA Requests Livestock Marketing Study Proposals

December 19, 2003

Dec. 19, 2003 -- The Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyard Administration (GIPSA) announced last week the availability of a Request for Proposal. Outside contractors are being solicited to conduct a Livestock and Meat Marketing Study funded by Congress in the FY 2003 appropriations legislation.

According to Donna Reifschneider, GIPSA administrator, ?The study will look at a lot of issues in the cattle, hog, lamb and meat industries. This is a large and complex study that will examine a broad range of marketing practices in those industries. It will draw on economics, business management, statistics and other academic disciplines.?

?The American Sheep Industry Association encourages institutions and other proposal-submitting parties to take into account the sheep industry as they develop their plan,? stated ASI President Guy Flora.

Interested parties must submit their proposal before 2:30 p.m. EST on January 14, 2004. Additional information can be obtained by following the Marketing Study link at: GIPSA.
