NSIIC Funds ASI Grant

December 12, 2003

Dec. 12, 2003 -- The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (NSIIC) reviewed more than 60 grant proposals submitted to them for funding. In an update to the executive board of the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI), Glen Fisher, an NSIIC director, stated, ?The proposals the NSIIC board reviewed were of the highest quality. Regrettably, the board did not have sufficient finances to fund all of the requests.?

ASI was formally notified that the $50,000 grant proposal submitted to research and develop a price risk-management program for sheep producers was fully funded. This valuable risk management program will help producers manage price risks and protect against significant revenue shortfall, as well as facilitate producers in optimizing the production, marketing and management of their operations.

According to Guy Flora, ASI president, ?The work ASI is doing in the area of risk management will benefit the entire industry. We are pleased that the Sheep Center recognized the importance of this project.?
