Dec. 5, 2003 -- A coalition of 165 agriculture and consumer groups sent a letter to President Bush this week urging him to oppose Congressional efforts to delay country-of-origin labeling (COOL).
In the letter they stated, ?Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman is quoted in recent media reports saying Congress is blocking implementation of the labeling law (COOL) at the behest of farm groups. As representatives of the majority of individuals affected by this law, we want to make you aware that the overwhelming majority of farmers, ranchers and consumers support this law.?
They continue in their letter to say that country-of-origin labeling is a marketing tool American producers need to promote the superiority of their products -- and differentiate them from commodities produced in other countries.
