ASI Seeking Nominations for Sheep Center Directors

Nov. 14, 2003 -- The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (NSIIC) issued via a Nov. 12, 2003, Federal Register notice a call for nominations for two voting directors positions on its board directors for current members whose terms expire Feb. 13, 2004.

One position is for a member who has expertise in lamb or wool product marketing while the other is for a member who is an active sheep producer.

NSIIC board members manage and oversee the center?s activities. Nominations may only be submitted by national organizations that consist primarily of active sheep producers in the United States and that have as their primary interest the production of sheep in the United States.

ASI is asking individuals and state associations interested in a director nomination to contact the ASI office prior to Dec. 10, 2003. The ASI Executive Board will approve the nominations in a mid-December conference call and will then forward those nominations to USDA no later than Dec. 29.

Bill Blake of Michigan is currently the marketing director and is interested in re-appointment. The sheep producer seat held by Jeanne McCormack will be vacant.
