Oct. 24, 2003 -- The number of representatives and senators signing the congressional letter to President Bush regarding Chinese textile imports continues to grow, with the addition of 20 more signatures over the past week. This brings the total of congressional signatures to 150.
The letter urges President Bush to approve the industry?s China textile safeguard request, prevent any loopholes that would benefit China and other Asian nations as part of a proposed free trade agreement with Central American nations and maintain U.S. textile tariffs during the current Doha Round of WTO trade talks.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. EST, the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition will conduct a press conference to announce the transmittal of the House and Senate China safeguard letters to President Bush and to discuss the textile coalition?s lobbying activities for the past couple months.
The coalition hopes to have procured all signatures by the close of business on Friday, Oct. 24, 2003.
