The U.S. Department of Agriculture is administering the Loan Deficiency Program (LDP) for producers who produce non-graded wool in the form of unshorn pelts for the 2002 through the 2007 crop years. The 2003 crop year runs from January 1 through December 31, 2003.
The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) would like to remind eligible producers and feeders who wish to apply for an unshorn pelt LDP for the 2003 crop year that a new CCC-709 PELT form must be completed at your local Farm Service Agency office. The application must be completed prior to losing beneficial interest of the unshorn pelts. The unshorn pelt provision applies only to slaughter lambs.
?Producers who applied for an unshorn pelt LDP for the 2002 crop year must reapply for the 2003 crop year by completing a new 709 PELT form. Because the 2002 crop year application period was extended into 2003, this should not be confused with the necessity of completing a new form for the 2003 crop year,? commented Peter Orwick, ASI executive director.
