The purpose of the National Wildlife Services Advisory Committee is to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on policies, program issues and research needed to conduct the Wildlife Services program. The committee also serves as a public forum enabling those affected by the Wildlife Services program to have a voice in the program?s policies.

The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) submitted a slate of committee member recommendations to APHIS. ASI requested that Rochelle Oxarango (Idaho), Joe Harper (West Virginia) and Deloyd Satterthwaite (Nevada) be re-appointed to NWSAC. Also nominated were: Steve Raftopoulos (Colorado) for a cattle/sheep producer position; Dr. Maurice Shelton (Texas) for an academia position; Patti Strand (Oregon) for an animal welfare position; and Scott Hartman (West Virginia) for a hunter/trapper position.

ASI president, Guy Flora, stated, ?I feel that ASI has recommended a strong slate of committee nominees. Their service in the national public interest, their cooperative working abilities and their knowledge of the issues make them all exceptional candidates.?
