Year 4 of the Lamb Meat Adjustment Assistance Program (LMAAP) for ewe, feeder and slaughter lambs ended on July 31, 2003. In early June, producers were informed that payments would be suspended until late September to give the Farm Service Agency (FSA) adequate time to review submissions and set payment rates according to the available budget.
The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) believes FSA will have its national report complete in the next few days and we have assurances that additional funds have been committed to allow eligible applications to be paid at the full rate.
According to Guy Flora, ASI president, ?The expectation that producers will receive full payment for applications as of July 31 in all three programs is encouraging. The Year 4 LMAAP payments are entirely separate of our request to extend the retained ewe lamb program for Year 5, which we are still actively working to secure.?
