Sheep and Lamb Inventory Down 4 Percent
The July 2003 mid-year Sheep and Lamb Inventory Report published by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) was released late last week. The results showed that the sheep and lamb inventory in the United States, which includes breeding sheep and market sheep and lambs, is down 4 percent from one year ago.
The 2003 lamb crop is expected to total 4.13 million head, down 5 percent from last year when it was 4.36 million head. Of the expected 4.13 million head, 3.68 million head of lamb, or 89 percent, were born during January through June, 2003.
