LMAAP Deadline Approaching
The deadline to apply for the Lamb Meat Adjustment Assistance Program (LMAAP) marketing period for ewe, feeder and slaughter lambs is slated to end on July 31, 2003. Producers must submit applications to their local FSA office by August 15, 2003, for any of these programs.
As a reminder, in the event the FSA receives more lambs applied for than there is available funding, payments will be pro-rated to a lesser amount in order to keep the program within its allotted budget.
?There may be a small pro-rate on feeder and slaughter lambs. However, with the small balance of funds left, it seems unlikely that retained ewe lambs will receive a payment close to the $18 per head?, stated American Sheep Industry Association Executive Director Peter Orwick. ?If an extension is granted, then we would be back on track for the payment rate.
?ASI is communicating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to acquire word on the pending decision to extend any or all of the LMAAP programs for an additional year,? continued Orwick. ?Our congressional supporters have maintained regular contact with the department in support of our request as well. Once a decision is communicated, ASI will pass that information on to producers.?
