Notice of Solicitation for Membership

In an August 5, 2003, Federal Register, Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman stated her intent to re-establish the Advisory Committee on Foreign Animal and Poultry Diseases for a two-year period. Therefore, nominations for membership on this committee are currently being solicited.

This committee advises the Secretary on actions necessary to keep foreign diseases of livestock and poultry from being introduced into the United States. The committee also gives direction on contingency planning and on maintaining a state of preparedness to deal with these diseases, if introduced.

Members are being solicited from interested organizations and individuals to serve on the committee, with the Secretary selecting members to obtain the broadest possible representation.

Nominations should be sent to: Dr. Joe Annelli, Director, Emergency Programs, VS, APHIS; 4700 River Road Unit 41; Riverdale, MD 20737-1231. They must be received on or before Sept. 25, 2003.
