Notice of Solicitation for Membership
In an Aug. 6, 2003, Federal Register, Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman announced the intent to renew the National Wildlife Services Advisory Committee for a two-year period. Therefore, nominations for membership on this committee are currently being solicited. The National Wildlife Services Advisory Committee advises the Secretary on policies, program issues and research needed to conduct the Wildlife Services program.
Presently, there are four sheep producers serving on the committee: DeLoyd Satterhwaite, Nevada; Joe Harper, West Virginia; John Baucus, Montana and Rochelle Oxarango, Idaho. ASI plans to re-nominate Harper, Satterhwaite and Oxarango, however, Baucus is ineligible for re-nomination since he has already served three consecutive terms.
ASI is seeking input from state sheep associations for nominations to this committee. Nominees in the capacity of sheep producer are needed as are recommendations for individuals to fill positions in research and academia, animal welfare, aquaculture and state wildlife management.
Any recommendations for nominations should be received in the ASI office before Friday, Sept. 5, so that all submission can be received at the Wildlife Services Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture before the Sept. 22, 2003 deadline.
