NSIIC Announces Third Round of Sheep and Goat Grant Initiatives

The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center is, for the third consecutive year, announcing the availability of $300,000 in competitive grants through the Sheep and Goat Industry Grant Initiative (SGIGI). The details of the program will be published in the Federal Register either Aug. 15 or Aug. 18. According to Jay Wilson, executive director of the NSIIC, the program will be run similar to the way it was last year.

Over the last two years, the NSIIC board of directors has funded 17 proposals. The primary objective of these grants is to fund a diversity of projects that will benefit the U.S. sheep and goat industries at the regional, national or international level. Information about past recipients and their proposals can be located on the NSIIC Web site at: www.nsiic.org

After the Federal Register is published, forms and all other applicable information will be posted to the NSIIC Web site. Completed proposals and other required materials must be received no later than Nov. 17, 2003, to be considered by the NSIIC board.
