June 2005 -- Megan Shier, from Chenoa, Ill., the 2005 Make It Yourself With Wool (MIYWW) junior winner appeared on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams on March 28. Shier was chosen to represent MIYWW and her scholarship winnings of $1,500 from the American sheep industry and Pendleton Woolen Mills for sewing and knitting an outfit with wool on the news segment concerning ?Unusual Scholarships,? found on the Web site, www.finaid.org.
Marie Lehfeldt, MIYWW national director, notified Shier of the opportunity one day before taping. During the four-hour interview, Shier promoted the American sheep industry, MIYWW, Pendleton Woolen Mills and the Finaid Scholarship Web site.
?I knew there were many different kinds of scholarships available,? says Shier. ?You just have to look hard enough to find the right one.?
In addition to Shier, Sheri Rider, MIYWW Colorado state director, was also interviewed; however, other world events pre-empted her interview from airing.
?I appreciate and thank both Megan and Sheri for their time and expertise in this promotional endeavor for the lamb and wool industry,? Lehfeldt says.
