Published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the report reviews the current progress of scrapie eradication in the United States.
At the end of fiscal year (FY) 2012, the percent of cull sheep found positive at slaughter and adjusted for face color was 0.006 percent. This measure of prevalence decreased by 94 percent since slaughter surveillance started in FY 2003. As of June 30, 2013, this measure of prevalence is 0.0169 percent.
Four source flocks (including one goat herd) and four infected flocks have been designated in FY 2013 as of June 30, 2013.
