Livestock groups applauded the passage of the Animal Drug User Fee Act (ADUFA), without amendments, by the House of Representatives this week with a 390-12 vote. The measure was already approved by the Senate so the legislation now heads to the White House for the president's signature.
ADUFA was first enacted in 2003 and allows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to collect fees from animal health companies for the review and approval of animal health products. The fees help reduce the time involved in the review process and speeds approvals for new, innovative products.
The American Sheep Industry Association is a strong supporter of this legislation and pleased with the reauthorization.
