Report from the NLFA

March 31, 2005

March/April 2005 -- National Lamb Feeders Association (NLFA) President, Tom Watson, presented the NLFA industry report to the American Sheep Industry Association's (ASI) Board of Directors.

Highlights included:
  • The Howard Wyman Sheep Industry Leadership School was another great success in San Angelo, Texas. The next leadership school will be held in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio State University. The emphasis of this course will be on meat, and show attendants how a lamb gets from the auction to the meat case. Watson encouraged those wishing to participate in the leadership school to sign-up early as they expect the class to be full.
  • Watson expressed the NLFA's appreciation for their convention sponsors.
  • He mentioned that the NLFA is concerned about a consistent lamb supply and volatile markets.
  • Watson reported that the NLFA is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture officials to determine the best method for animal identification in sheep.
In closing, Watson reiterated the NLFA's support for the American Lamb Referendum.
