Baa-baa, black sheep, you missed a spot over there. Four little black sheep have just been brought in to Paris from the French countryside to work as eco-friendly lawn mowers at the city parks. The wooly workers will munch their way through the Paris green space in an effort to promote not only sustainability and cutting down on the use of park machinery, but also biodiversity, since their droppings will attract insects and birds.
Between April and October, the new "park workers" will graze grounds the size of eight tennis courts in three two-week-long sweeps replacing both chemicals and lawn mowers.
If the experiment goes well, Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoë plans to expand the program to more parks in the city.
