Extension of Livestock Slaughter Information Collection

September 16, 2011
The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) submitted its comments to the Federal Register in support of an extension of the currently approved information collection to estimate daily livestock slaughter under federal inspection.

American sheep producers rely heavily on accurate and timely reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)/Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) as they make daily marketing and pricing decisions for their operations. These reports are also utilized by analysts and market forecasters to both conduct industry-relevant research, provide data perspective for decision making and for building risk-management tools.

"ASI strongly supports USDA/AMS' request for approval of an extension of the currently approved information collection used to compile and generate the Federally Inspected Estimated Daily Slaughter Report," stated Margaret Soulen Hinson, ASI president and Idaho producer.
