November 2004 -- The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported in mid September that the Labor division in Australia will spend $10 million to directly help farmers pay for the National Livestock Identification Scheme.
Other sources are likely to contribute funding to the Australian national livestock ID program as well.
The U.S. federal government has spent nearly $12 million in FY 2004 funding to advance the country?s national animal ID initiative. The Senate Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee has delegated an additional $33 million for animal ID efforts in its current version of the FY 2005 budget.
