USDA Authorizes CRP Grazing in Texas

June 3, 2011
In response to drought conditions, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) authorized emergency grazing use of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for 38 counties in Texas. Emergency grazing of eligible CRP acres has been authorized through Sept. 30.

"These severe drought conditions have not bypassed the sheep producers in Texas," commented Peter Orwick, executive director for the American Sheep Industry Association. "The industry is hopeful that producers interested in breeding stock will consider the Texas market as an option for purchasing ewes."
