ProHeart 6 Heartworm Product Recalled

November 15, 2004

November 2004 -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in early September an agreement by Fort Dodge Animal Health, of Overland Park, Kan., to both cease production and conduct a recall of its heartworm medication, ProHeart 6, from the market until concerns about adverse reaction reports associated with the product are resolved.

ProHeart 6 is an approved injectable, sustained-release heartworm prevention product for dogs. FDA has advised veterinarians to avoid administering the product until further notice.

Pet and guard dog owners should consult their veterinarian with questions.
