Deadline for American Polypay Starter Flock Contest Approaching

November 2004 -- The American Polypay Sheep Association (APSA) is hosting its second American Polypay Starter Flock Contest. The goal is to find an individual who desires a chance to raise and improve upon the Polypay breed.

Whether applicants are well-versed in sheep or just learning, the APSA encourages youth to apply. In addition to receiving three registered Polypay ewes and $100 buying credit for use at the 2005 National Polypay Sale, winners will be matched with a Polypay breeder mentor.

The sheep will consist of one yearling ewe, which will have lambed by June 15, and two fall or spring ewe lambs. One of the ewe lambs will be futurity nominated by the association and shown at the 2006 National Junior Show.

The recipient will be honored at the National Polypay Show and Sale June 16-18, 2005, in Springfield, Ill. The application deadline is Feb. 15, 2005. All U.S. youth who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply:
? involvement in 4-H or Future Farmers of America (FFA);
? between the ages of 8-19 as of Feb. 15, 2005;
? will attend the 2005 National Polypay Show and Sale;
? will use a register Polypay ram for first breeding;
? will write a one-page essay; and
? will submit a letter of recommendation with the application.
