November 2004 -- The American Dorper Sheep Breeders? Society just completed its Fourth Annual North American Dorper Show and Sale.
The show and sale were well attended with more than 250 attendees and 97 registered buyers competing for the offering of Dorper sheep. Buyers came from Mexico, Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana and Texas.
A total of 98 lots sold for a sale average of $1,105.86. The Champion Dorper Ram came from Riverwood Farms in Ohio and sold to Raul Hernandez of Mexico for $2000. The Champion Dorper Ewe was exhibited by Powell Ranch, and was purchased by Gumaro Rodriquez of Mexico. The Champion White Dorper Ram went to Broadmead Farms in Oregon and was bought by Roeder Ranch for $800. John Hodge took home the Champion White Dorper Ewe for $1,600, which was exhibited by Broadmead Farms. The top-selling Dorper was exhibited by 3C & TP Ranches of Fort Stockton and was bought by Philip Glass/Half Circle Six Ranches of Water Valley for $3,800. The top-selling White Dorper was purchased by Gumaro Rodriquez for $3,000 and was exhibited by Karoo Genetics from Arizona.
