A $760 million settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that claimed USDA discriminated against Native Americans.
The settlement class includes all Native American farmers and ranchers who farmed or ranched and who tried to get a farm loan or loan servicing from USDA between Jan. 1, 1981, and Nov. 24, 1999. Up to $50,000 or more and full or partial loan forgiveness from the settlement may be granted to those who qualify. After the court grants final approval to the settlement, meetings will be held across the country to help people file claims.
