The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI), along with the Idaho Wool Growers Association and 22 other individuals and organizations, submitted comments to the appeals received on the July 20 Record of Decision made by Payette National Forest Supervisor Suzanne Rainville. Appeals were filed by eight organizations and the sheep industry chose to intervene on two of those appeals - the Western Watersheds Project and the Nez Perce Tribe.
As an intervenor, the coalition of sheep industry organizations will continue to participate in the legal process involving domestic sheep grazing and wild sheep populations.
Rainville communicated with the industry this week to announce that she has scheduled a meeting on Dec. 14 for the appellants of her decision. The purpose of the meeting is to resolve or eliminate any appeal issues and for Rainville to understand the concerns about her decision.
