A new Sheep and Goat Research Journal article entitled Substituting Corn Dried Distillers Grains for Cottonseed Meal in Lamb Finishing Diets: Carcass Characteristics, Meat Fatty Acid Profiles and Sensory Panel Traits written by T. R. Whitney and K. W. Braden has been posted to the American Sheep Industry Association's Web site, www.sheepusa.org.
As quantity and availability of dried distillers grains (DDG) continues to increase, the livestock industry has responded by exploring more feed formulation uses for this nutrient-dense co-product. However, research to evaluate effects of feeding DDG on lamb-carcass characteristics, meat fatty acids (FA) and sensory panel traits is limited. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to evaluate effects of replacing cottonseed meal with DDG on lamb-carcass characteristics, meat FA profiles and sensory panel traits.
