The Animal Agriculture Alliance hosted a meeting this week that brought representatives from the sheep, beef, swine, turkey, chicken, veal and egg industries together with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
The purpose of the program was to review and explain to APHIS the various industry-driven animal welfare/care programs. APHIS wanted to learn about the various industry programs to help them respond to public inquiries and to train its field staff.
The American Sheep Industry Association presented the Sheep Care Guide, available at www.sheepusa.org, as well as the Sheep Safety and Quality Assurance program.
