Wool carpet is a more affordable option than used to be the case, an expert has noted. In a feature on sustainable flooring choices, the Times Colonist in Canada quoted interiors expert Greg Holtz as stating that wool "used to be referred to as the rich man's carpet."
However, he added, this is no longer true, remarking, "But the price of wool has been stable, compared to spikes on prices of carpets based on petro-chemicals."
The latter type increases in cost when oil prices rise, Holtz observed, noting that a wool carpet now is no more expensive than an average nylon carpet.
As well as the lower cost, the paper noted that wool carpets come from a sustainable and renewable material.
