JBS South America announced this week that its Australian business, Swift Australia, completed the acquisition of Tatiara Meat Co. after receiving approval for the merger from Australian regulatory authorities.
The acquisition, a cash deal for US$27.5 million, makes Swift Australia the largest lamb processor in the country, with a total slaughtering capacity of 24,500 head per day, and positions the company to not only increase its presence in Australia but in the export trade.
Tatiara processes and sells lambs to high-end markets in the United States, Canada and Europe, as well as its domestic market. The company does about US$183 million in annual sales.
JBS Swift also owns and operates a lamb plant in Greeley, Colo.
