September 2004 -- Recent strength in the lamb market and lower consignment numbers helped with higher sale prices in some categories at the 83rd Annual Idaho State Ram and Ewe Sale held July 10, 2004, in Filer, Idaho.

 

The sale, sponsored by the Idaho Wool Growers Association, boasted good numbers and a stronger-than-average buyer turnout.

 

Consignors sold 247 rams and 3 registered ewes with total gross receipts at $156,350, an increase of $29,450 from the total gross receipts of $126,900 in 2003.

 

Averages per breed included:

  • Suffolk yearling range rams, $743, up $136 per head from $607 in 2003;
  • Hampshire/Suffolk cross yearling rams, $522 per head, down $57;
  • Suffolk ram lambs division, $227 per head;
  • Hampshire/Suffolk cross ram lambs division, $340/head;
  • Six Columbia rams, $300 per head, up $12 from 2003; and
  • Suffolk yearling ram stud division, $808, up from $775 in 2003.
