90-Day Extension on DSEIS Requested

December 5, 2008
The sheep industry this week requested a 90-day extension on the comment period for the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) that analyzes the effects of grazing domestic sheep within the Payette National Forest.

Collaborative efforts are underway to assist in the resolution of this issue which led the American Sheep Industry Association, the Idaho Wool Growers Association and the Colorado Wool Growers Association to each call for the U.S. Forest Service to offer additional time to finalize recommendations. These collaborative groups plan to supply recommendations that will be useful to the agency on the very issues that they are seeking public comment and the 90-day extension is necessary for the discussions to yield results.
