The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced on Thursday the purchase of 72,000 pounds of lamb shoulder chops at a cost of approximately $273,000. These products will be distributed in federal food and nutrition programs.
One vendor in this invitation period was awarded a contract. Purchases will be made from Mountain States Rosen LLC. Delivery will take place between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15, 2009.
"More than $1.1 million in lamb product has been purchased in three separate bids since AMS started buying lamb in September of this year," commented Burdell Johnson, president of the American Sheep Industry Association.
