Mt. States Purchases Remaining Rosen Interest

October 17, 2008

October 17, 2008 - Mountain States Lamb and Wool Cooperative in Douglas, Wyo., announced its purchase of the remaining B. Rosen interest in Mountain States Rosen. The new owners of Mountain States Rosen, and the company's predominant supplier of lamb, subsequently sold a minority ownership in the company to its main veal supplier, Formula One. With nationwide distribution and sales in excess of $130 million annually, this historic partnership makes Mountain States Rosen the largest fully integrated lamb and veal company in the United States.

In February 2003, Mountain States Lamb and Wool Cooperative, representing sheep producers in 10 western states teamed up with B. Rosen and Sons, a three-generation lamb and veal processor from New York to form Mountain States Rosen. The new entity paired the largest supply of American-grown lamb with the nation's number one fabricator and supplier. This partnership has enabled Mountain States Rosen to offer its customers a steady, year-round supply of fresh, premium-quality, high-yielding American lamb products and eliminated the traditional seasonal shortages.

Since the initial partnership was formed, Mountain States Rosen has established itself in the marketplace as a supplier of quality lamb and veal. During the past few years the company has grown its case ready division into a high-quality, large-volume program utilizing the newest technologies to offer its customers a wide array of quality lamb and veal products. Mountain States has added an all-natural, from-birth, antibiotic- and hormone-free lamb program sold under the Shepherd's Pride label.

Mountain States Lamb and Wool Cooperative has approximately 140 family producers in 14 states. It has supplied Mountain States Rosen with well over 1 million lambs and are seeking additional lamb producers interested in marketing their lambs under a quality grid system and becoming a shareholder in the cooperative.
