February 29, 2007 - Sheep industry leaders are making plans for the annual spring trip to Washington, D.C., May 7-9, 2008, where producers can visit with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials as well as meet with the land management agency offices at the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) representatives and state association leaders will once again host the American Lamb Barbeque for congressional and administration representatives on Wed., May 7, in Alexandria, Va.
The purpose of this trip is to visit with federal policy makers regarding rules and regulations and legislation affecting sheep production. Additionally, leaders discuss the national programs of the industry from disease eradication to predator management and American wool marketing.
This is one of the most important meetings of the sheep industry during the year with 20 or more states sending representatives. Individuals interested in participating should contact their state association or Peter Orwick at the ASI office at 303-771-3500.
