February 15, 2008 - The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) is asking you to share your expertise by volunteering your time and knowledge to one of the industry's councils or committees for the upcoming year. Councils and committees are instrumental in working for sheep producers by recommending and setting policy that designates direction for the industry. ASI has five councils with many related committees. The councils include wool, lamb, legislative, resource management and producer education and research.
Council and committee memberships are appointed for terms of one year. Nominations for councils and committees of ASI should be submitted by your state sheep producer association. Please contact your state association with your interest and request to be nominated. The ASI Web site,
www.sheepusa.org, has contact information for all 44 state sheep producer organizations as well as the ASI leaders and the ASI office.
The executive board of ASI will be meeting on Saturday, March 1, 2008, to finalize appointments. Therefore, nominations should be submitted on or before Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, to be considered.
"ASI is an organization run by sheep producers for sheep producers," stated Burdell Johnson (N.D.), ASI president. "If you are interested in getting more involved in the sheep industry at the national level, I would encourage you to consider participation on a council or committee. There is a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction in knowing that you are helping to advance your industry as well as in meeting fellow producers from across the country."
