This year's meeting is expected to again draw wide participation from across the country.
A well rounded schedule has been developed with workshops ranging from the projected effects of biofuel production on the sheep industry to updated techniques and tools for predator management scheduled throughout the day Thursday. Full agendas are planned for the council and committee meetings being held on Friday morning.
Over 100 council and committee members will be joined by convention attendees to review policies and programs of the association. Federal officials from several agencies will be discussing topics such as sheep genetic research, grading of lamb carcasses and the status of the targeted grazing with sheep program. Congressional staff will be available to review the Farm Bill, which Congress will likely act on after the sheep industry convention. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Marketing and Regulatory Programs under secretary Bruce Knight has been invited to speak to the board of directors on Friday afternoon.
