September 7, 2007 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced that it is extending the comment period on the proposed rule for the Livestock Mandatory Reporting (LMR) program. The Sept. 7, 2007, deadline has been extended to Sept. 24, 2007.
"We are extending the comment period to ensure that all those wishing to comment have the opportunity to do so," said Lloyd Day, AMS administrator. "We strongly encourage all interested parties to submit comments."

The American Sheep Industry Association submitted comments to re-establish the LMR program and reminded the agency of the urgency to finalize the rule and to resume mandatory price reporting for lamb.
