August 24, 2007 - On Wednesday, 72,000 pounds of lamb leg roasts costing approximately $216,000 were purchased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service. The roasts will be distributed in the federal food and nutrition programs.
This is the second purchase under new USDA specifications that added two new cuts to the list of frozen lamb products available for sale to this program.
Offers for this buy were accepted from two bidders - Mountain States Rosen LLC, Greeley, Colo. and Transhumance, Inc., Denver, Colo.

This purchase falls under the lamb purchase program requested by the American Sheep Industry Association and approved by Secretary of Agriculture Johanns in April 2006.
