Next Round of Lamb Buys Due

August 17, 2007 - Today is the deadline for this round of offers to purchase frozen lamb products for use in federal food and nutrition program. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) made this announcement last Friday.

Acceptances will be announced by midnight, Friday, Aug. 24, with shipments to be scheduled between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15. Details of the invitation can be accessed at www.ams.usda.gov/lscp/otherredmeat/orm_purchaseinfo.htm.

Last week, USDA purchased 36,000 pounds of lamb leg roasts at a cost of $108,000.

These announcements are part of the $5 million lamb roast purchase program that USDA provided at the request of the American Sheep Industry Association.
