August 10, 2007 - Nick L. Forrest of Ohio, James R. (Richard) Drake of Colorado and James P. Teitscheid of Colorado have been appointed to the Lamb Promotion, Research and Information Board by Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns. All three will serve three-year terms beginning January 2008.
Re-appointed to the board was Lorin L. Moench Jr. of Utah, representing producers with more than 500 head of sheep.
The 13-member board is composed of six producers, three feeders, one seedstock producer and three first-handlers. Forrest represents producers with less than 100 ovine animals, Drake will represent feeders and Teitscheid will represent first handlers.
Forrest is a past Lamb Promotion, Research and Information Board member and has been involved with many local, regional and state sheep associations, including the Ohio Sheep and Wool Association. Drake has 35 years experience in the feeding industry and is active in the National Lamb Feeders Association, American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) and the National Livestock Producers Association. Teitscheid is plant manager for Superior Farms and is a member of the National Meat Association, the Colorado Wool Growers Association and the National Lamb Feeders Association.
"We are pleased that ASI nominees, Nick Forrest and Lorin Moench, will be producer directors of the lamb board and want to thank Wyoming producer Sandy Snider, who Mr. Forrest is replacing, for her years of service as a director," said Burdell Johnson, ASI president. "We also look forward to new directors Richard Drake and James Teitscheid as they bring their expertise in the industry to the board as well."
