July 20, 2007 - Agriculture appropriations bills were approved for eventual floor action in both chambers by appropriators on Thursday. The House panel approved an $18.8 billion discretionary measure and the Senate an $18.7 billion version.
Several of the sheep priorities that the American Sheep Industry Association has been able to follow in the House version include $17.3 million for the scrapie eradication program, down from last years $18.4 million; Wildlife Services operations received $76.95 million, up from $74.85 million; and predator control programs in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming were funded with $1.3 million.
The Senate version provides $18.68 million for scrapie; $76.76 million for Wildlife Services operations; and $1.32 for predator control programs in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.
While the House version did not fund the Skeen Institute, the Senate version provided $900,000 for the institute.
There is no word as to when these bills will go to the floor. Staff contact: Peter Orwick, ext. 33
