June 29, 2007

June 29, 2007 - Craig Morris, deputy administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Livestock and Seed Program (LSP), announced this week that Warren P. Preston, Ph.D., accepted the position of chief of the Livestock and Grain Market News Branch, effective July 9, 2007. In addition, he will continue to serve in the capacity of the chief economist for LSP.

Warren joined LSP in 2001 as the chief economist. Prior to that, he worked in the Packers and Stockyards Program of the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration serving as leader of the economics section and later as chief of the Competition Branch. Prior to joining USDA, he held a research and teaching position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Virginia Tech from 1986 to 1992.

Concurrently, Morris announced a structural change where Warren would be reporting directly to him, joining Randall Jones and William Sessions as one of the program's now three associate deputy administrators.

"This change reflects a carefully considered functional realignment within the program that I am undertaking with the support and direction of the agency's administrator," stated Morris.
