June 8, 2007 - The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center (NSIIC) has cleared the first hurdle in the 2007 Farm Bill process as the industry works to get the center reinstated.
The House Subcommittee on Specialty Crops, Rural Development and Foreign Agriculture marked up its draft of the 2007 Farm Bill this week reauthorizing the program through 2012 with up to $10 million per year.
"We appreciate the support of U.S. Rep. John Salazar (Colo.) and Agriculture Committee Chair Colin Peterson (Minn.) and are encouraged that this language has cleared the subcommittee," commented Peter Orwick, executive director of the American Sheep Industry Association.
