A Peek at Sheep
The sheep barn at Oregon State University is a popular destination these days as people of all ages flock to the site to see a sure sign of spring - lambs.
More than 300 Suffolk ewes housed in the barn are expected to give birth to more than 700 lambs.
The center is a popular field trip destination for school children, community groups and the general public during the lambing season.
That Lanolin Luster
Women in ancient Rome depended on sheep to help them look chic: Lanolin from sheep's wool was used to form the basis of a paling face cream.
Other unusual ancient makeup sources included dregs of red wine, which were applied to lips; bear fat, which was mixed with lamp soot and combed onto eyelashes; and the expensive spice, ground saffron, which was smudged across eyelids.
