Vietnam to Join WTO

December 15, 2006 - Vietnam will become the World Trade Organization's (WTO) 150th member on Jan. 11, 2007.

The ratification of the accession package by the WTO General Council and Vietnamese authorities will provide Vietnam with additional access to overseas markets and will also result in the reduction of a number of import tariffs, including those applicable to red meat.

Vietnam's total gross domestic product was estimated at $61 billion this year, with annual growth estimated at 8.2 percent and forecast to be 8.5 percent next year.
